It's time to talk about St. Paul.
St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians is probably his most controversial.
It really shouldn't be.
(If you don't know the passage I'm referring to, I'll give you a hint: check Ephesians 5. You'll be able to spot it).
Of course, Jeff Cavins addresses this with the wisdom and knowledge he is known for (about 5 minutes into session 7 of this program).
But the sad thing is, Ephesians should be known for so much more than one misunderstood passage.
Ephesians is a book you could base a whole retreat on (which is essentially what this program is).
Trouble is, that's not as easy as it sounds.
St. Paul, for his many amazing gifts, can be a little difficult to read—even St. Peter addresses this when he wrote:
"There are some things in [Paul's letters] hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures." (2 Peter 3:16).
That's why Catholics are so excited about this program ... reading Ephesians isn't a struggle anymore!
Ephesians shouldn't be controversial ... it needs to be recognized as a profound discussion of what it means to be a Christian.
Because Paul was writing to the very earliest Christian churches, his letters are one of the best resources we have to discover the most foundational, most fundamental explanation of being a member of Christ's Church.
This is the danger and the reward in Paul's letters—they can indeed be difficult to understand, but what a gift to those who understand them! They are a window into the foundation of our Church!
Having a biblical expert like Jeff Cavins explain the context, depth, and genius of this letter in a comprehensive and compelling way is an amazing opportunity for Catholics.
This letter is crucial to understand for us ... both to answer misunderstandings of others, and to bring ourselves into even deeper understanding of what it means to be a Christian; a member of the body of Christ.
P.S. – Jeff actually said this was his favorite Bible study to make! Shot in a beautiful location, the peace and beauty of this program will rub off on you—don't be surprised if you're floating on air a bit while you're going through this program!
Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, studied by author Jeff Cavins, reveals many astonishing gifts that we as Christians are given in the Church.
This letter teaches us about the nature of this Church – as a body, as a household, as a mystery, as a communion, as a bride, and as an army.
In addition, it reveals to us the great inheritance that awaits us as sons and daughters, adopted fully into the family of God.
It also shows us how God’s great love for us, if we allow it, can transform our daily loves.
Ephesians will enrich your faith, and show you how to live it out.
