Product Description

•••••
St. Ignatius was not only a mystic but also a master psychologist, contends Bernard J.F. Lonergan, S.J., one of the foremost Catholic philosophers of the 20th century. The Dynamism of Desire applies Lonergan’s insights to the traditional four–week completion of Ignatius’s Spiritual Exercises and includes in–depth discussions of such topics as “The Mediation of Christ in Prayer” and “Three Ways of Being Humble.”

Lonergan emphasized Ignatius’s discovery of an “inbuilt dynamism” of the human spirit’s yearning for authenticity and self–transcendence, and he argued for the Spiritual Exercises as a means to a creative acceptance of God’s love. Author James L. Connor, S.J., served as director of the Woodstock Theological Center from 1987 to 2002, and this book arose from discussions among the Center’s staff as well as their “living practice” of the Exercises.

Paperback, 492 pages.
