“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?” —Job 38:4

The Foundations of Science introduces children to the natural world's marvels in light of God's providential concern for the universe. This eight-part series explores a vast range of scientific topics, from animals and vegetation to the galaxies of outer space and the depths of the ocean, to cells and organisms, to the mysteries of chemistry and the wonders of our planet. In addition, it describes the intricate order found beneath the surface of creation and many of the Church's scientific contributions throughout history.

In Cells and Systems: Living Machines, Dr. Heather Ayala examines the intriguing intricacies of one of God's smallest creations: the cell. Children can learn how they were created, from the division of their cells and the DNA instructions within them to their muscles and bones, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, and other systems, their five senses, and why eating healthy foods and getting plenty of exercise is beneficial for them.

In this companion workbook, elementary school students will have an additional tool to help them interact with and retain the material.

Includes:

  • Coloring pages
  • Crossword puzzles
  • Word searches
  • Journaling
  • Matching and Multiple Choice
  • Fill in the Blank and True/False
  • Short answers and Essays
The workbook also includes activities and arts and crafts with scientific and religious themes.

This innovative science curriculum will transport you back to the time when God created the earth.

Target Age: The workbook is ideally suited for middle elementary-aged students, but it can be adapted for children as young as first grade and as old as fifth grade. With a variety of activities included, not all need to be completed. The choice of activities can be tailored based on the child's age. For example, younger students might benefit from coloring pages, while older students might skip these and focus on more complex tasks. Similarly, younger students may bypass some of the personal reflection questions, while older ones should be encouraged to provide detailed and thoughtful responses. Please adjust the workbook to best fit your family's needs.
