“To reveal God to men”: this, Pope Benedict XVI declared in the inaugural homily of his papacy, is the purpose of the Christian life. Pope Benedict XVI (1927–2022) served as Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church from 2005 to 2013. A brilliant, contemplative theologian, he wrote dozens of books, including the enormously influential Introduction to Christianity and the Jesus of Nazareth trilogy, as well as numerous other scholarly and spiritual works.
