A drama on the life of St. Faustina, based upon the experiences recorded in her spiritual diary. She received from Our Lord the visions of Divine Mercy in the 1900's.

A beautiful, artistic portrayal of her mystical life in high quality cinema. Dorota Segda was voted top actress of the year by film critics for her stunning portrayal of Sister Faustina.

Polish filmmaker Jerzy Lukaszewicz directs the religious drama Faustina, based on the real life of Helena Kowalska, born in 1905 as the third of ten children. Even as a child, she had experienced visions of Jesus Christ, which would continue throughout her life. In 1925, she joined the Polish convents of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy and took the name Sister Maria Faustyna (spelled Faustina in English).

This film features dramatized stories from her life, based on actual writings from her spiritual journals and personal diaries. Faustina died of tuberculosis in 1938, was beatified as a saint in 1993, and canonized in 2000 by Pope John Paul II. Starring Dorota Segda and Danuta Szaflarska, Faustina won Best Feature at the Catholic Film Festival in 1995.

A bonus feature is included: 25-minute documentary made in 2000, about the actual places Saint Faustina lived.

This film is not rated. It is 75 minutes long. Language is Polish with optional English and Spanish subtitles.

Starring: Dorota Segda, Danuta Szaflarska, Agnieszka Czekanska, Stanislawa Celinska, and Krzysztof Wakulinski.

Faustina: The Apostle of Divine Mercy
(London ON) | October 21st, 2023
I was somewhat disappointed in the story told in this DVD. It did not stay true to the diary calling of St. Faustina. It was told from the perspective of a nun who was in her Order. The DVD missed a lot of important events in her life when she received her call from Jesus, left home and went on her journey to find a convent that would accept her. I was a bit disappointed in the story. I was going to give the DVD to someone, but I thought it did not portray the story as told in the diary. The actress who portrayed Sr Faustina in the DVD did do a good job. PLUS the DVD is in Polish with English subtitles.
