First Start Reading is a comprehensive phonics course that emphasizes three key skills: 1) proper pencil grip and letter formation, 2) mastering one sound for each consonant and vowel first, and 3) mastering short and long vowel sounds, 3-letter words, consonant blends, long vowel teams, soft c and g, three y sounds, and 67 common words. Most phonics rules are not needed because FSR teaches vowel/consonant blending and word families. Blending, tracing, and printing words will help your youngster learn. The majority of students start reading sentences in the first class!
