You is a collection of eighteen Catholic Hour addresses by Msgr. Fulton J. Sheen, delivered from December 1944 through April 1945. The booklet is written directly to the reader, beginning with the restless search for happiness and arguing that ordinary pleasures, success, love, money, and reputation all disappoint when treated as final ends. Msgr. Sheen’s central claim is that the human person is made for perfect Life, Truth, and Love—ultimately God—and that dissatisfaction is not meaningless misery, but a sign pointing beyond earthly things toward the One who can truly satisfy.

From there, Msgr. Sheen moves through what God is like, what human beings are like, how sin damages them, and how Christ remakes them through religion, faith, hope, charity, repentance, fellowship, and surrender to God’s will. The later talks especially stress that real freedom is not merely “freedom from” restraint, but “freedom for” God; that love is an act of the will rather than just emotion; and that the purpose of life is to return to God by choosing His will. Overall, it is a warm but challenging spiritual retreat in booklet form: Msgr. Sheen wants the reader to stop chasing lesser satisfactions, admit their need for redemption, and find wholeness, peace, and purpose in Christ.
