The Little Office of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The Little Office of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a liturgical devotional modeled on the Divine Office, guiding the faithful through the principal moments of Christ’s Passion across the canonical Hours of the day. Approved by the Sacred Congregation of Rites in 1921 and enriched with indulgences, this Office was composed by a Passionist priest to meet the requirements of liturgical law while remaining accessible to both clergy and laity. Nearly every text is drawn directly from Sacred Scripture and the early liturgy of the Church, grounding the devotion firmly in the Church’s ancient prayer tradition.

Each Hour commemorates a specific stage of the Passion—from Christ’s agony in the Garden and His scourging and crowning with thorns, to the Crucifixion, death, and burial—allowing the faithful to unite their prayer with the suffering Redeemer throughout the day. Reverent, scriptural, and richly poetic, this Office is especially suited for Fridays, Lent, and private Holy Hours, offering a structured yet deeply affective meditation on the Passion as a powerful means of spiritual growth and love of God.
