Black walnut hulls are an exceptional herbal remedy that has been employed from ancient times in both Western and Eastern medicine to treat worms and skin diseases.

The hulls, bark and leaves are antifungal, antiparasitical, and antidysenteric. The extract of the hulls is good for skin diseases, eczema, herpes, psoriasis, skin parasites when taken internally and/or externally.

Black Walnut is also considered to be an antiseptic and a laxative. H. Winter Griffith, M.D., associate professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Arizona's College of Medicine, writes that black walnut hull does indeed help with a variety of health conditions from ridding the body of intestinal parasites and tapeworms to reducing constipation and healing skin conditions like acne, canker sores, psoriasis, and other fungal infections.

Peter Holmes, the well-known specialist in classic Oriental medicine, distinguishes the medicinal properties of black walnut from those of the leaf, pointing out that, Walnut hull is better at treating chronic inflammatory conditions, especially chronic intestinal and urogenital infections.

Black Walnut hulls are heavily laden with potassium (iodide). Steven H. Horne writes that black walnut is one of the few land plants that is rich in iodine. Horne adds that, I've personally found black walnut to be a great remedy for serious thyroid problems. Horne reports that fibromyalgia often responds to black walnut use, explaining that the condition may be partially attributed to iodine deficiency.
