The Saint Edmund Campion Missal, perhaps the most beautiful and accessible missal ever created, stands alone among Extraordinary Form missals, acting as an exquisite and dignified congregational book presenting the Traditional Latin Mass. In only 672 pages, this Missal is elaborately crafted with large letters, gorgeous artwork, photos, and Gregorian chant.
The Campion Missal includes plainchant for the Kyria, Gloria, Credo, and Sanctus as well as the Sunday and Feast Day propers and readings in both Latin and English. Other sacraments and rites in the Extraordinary Form, including as marriage, confirmation, and funerals, are also included.
The Campion Missal has two regular sections: one for the High Mass, with full-color visuals and music, and one for the Low Mass, which is basic and streamlined. This keeps individuals who are inexperienced with the Extraordinary Form from misunderstanding cues or rubrics that appear at one Mass but not the other. For added convenience, the two sections are styled differently.
Rev. F. X. Lasance's English translations were meticulously replicated for The Campion Missal, offering an elegant as well as literal translation. The Ordo Missae, on the other hand, uses Msgr. Ronald Knox's translation for the High Mass, while Fr. Lasance's version is used for the Low Mass.
This Third Edition of the Campion Missal (2022) has been expertly edited and has several enhancements to make it more user-friendly, including a reduction in both weight and page count to make it less unwieldy to hold.
Despite the page decrease, significant additions were made, such as the inclusion of the 1950 Holy Week, which makes use of a unique and recently unearthed English translation by Msgr. Ronald Knox. These pages also include the 1962 edition of Holy Week.
While the majority of the book is printed in black and white, the regular parts are gorgeously typeset in the form of magnificent altar cards and loaded with sumptuous artwork and photographs from a Traditional Latin Mass. More than forty pages are adorned with digitally enhanced wood cut pictures, each carefully chosen and deeply theological.
The music for the Vidi Aquam, Asperges, and the three variants of the Preface Dialogue are all included in the Missa Solemnis portion, allowing for easy congregational participation.
