St. Monica was wed off at a young age to an abusive pagan spouse after being born in contemporary Algeria. They had three kids together, one of them would grow up to become St. Augustine of Hippo. But Augustine wasn't always the devout Catholic we now know and love. He and Monica's husband both gave her a great deal of grief, and she prayed for them most of her life. Her prayers were finally heard after a great deal of perseverance, and they both joined the church. By emulating the hues and designs of traditional Algerian fabrics, these socks pay homage to St. Monica's heritage while also honouring her faith. The IHS symbol is also utilized to show her faith and connection to Christ throughout.
