Word on Fire Bible (Volume 1): The Gospels - Leather

It is a beautiful production. The commentaries are wonderful. They open up the bible. Now I read it every day.

I received this volume as a gift from a Catholic friend. As other reviewers have noted, the physical quality of the volume, from the binding to the quality of the art reproductions to the choice of fonts, is exceptional - a true labor of love. Although not a Roman Catholic myself (though I grew up in that tradition), but rather an Anglican, I have also found the commentaries very illuminating - even though I have been an adult Christian for 40 years and have read fairly widely from various forms of Christian literature over the years. Robert Barron's commentaries, which represent 80% or more of the commentary content in the volume, are often, to my mind, quite profound, yet very clearly expressed. (The others, often from Bishop Fulton Sheen or GK Chesterton, are also good.) The selection of art works chosen to illustrate the Gospels is also wonderful - sometimes unexpected yet always apt. The commentaries on the art are succinct yet also illuminating, giving us another way - in part the Via Pulchritudinis, the Way of Beauty - of apprehending the Gospels. I have no reservation at all in recommending this volume. I gave a copy to my daughter and son-in-law, both practicing Anglicans, as a special gift recently, and am considering ordering further copies as gifts for others including non-Catholics.

Stunning. As a student of the classics, I love having the artwork integrated with the Bible text, along with corresponding writings by Bishop Barron and other notable theologians throughout history. It helps to really flesh out the text as well as deepen one's knowledge of Catholic theology.

What a masterpiece! Everything about this Bible is absolutely magnificent. The quality of the leather cover, the gold leaf, the paper feels like silk, the art work is beautiful and let’s not forget Bishop Barron’s commentary is so helpful. Great addition to my collection.
