St. Rose of Lima (or "Rosa" in Spanish), a late-16th-century Peruvian saint, was the first person born in the Americas to be canonised. She adopted asceticism at a young age, doing self-imposed penance and donning a crown of thorns to identify with Jesus' sufferings. St. Rosa made complex needlework designs that represented her love for God and the saints by combining her unshakeable faith with her passion for stitching. She also found peace and spiritual connection in her garden, which she planted with an abundance of roses to represent her own spiritual path. St. Rose of Lima's dedication, selfless gestures, and special gifts continue to inspire people all over the globe. Our sock design pays respect to Peruvian embroidered motifs and St. Rosa of Lima's gardening history.
