Adele Brise, a fervent Christian who was born in Belgium, ended up in Champion, Wisconsin, after her family migrated during her youth. Adele came upon a quiet woman in white between a maple and a hemlock tree while roaming through the Champion woods. Adele ran into the woman again on Sunday, October 9, 1859, on her way to Mass with her sister and friend. She told a priest about her experience after Mass and was urged to talk with the apparition if she saw her again. Adele spotted the woman for the third time on her way home. Undaunted by her friends' failure to notice the apparition, Adele followed her priest's advice and asked, "In God's name, who are you and what do you want of me?" "I am the Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners, and I wish you to do the same," the woman said. You had Holy Communion this morning, which is fine. But you must go above and beyond. Make a universal confession and give Communion for sinners' conversion. If they do not repent and convert, my Son will be forced to chastise them." The Queen of Heaven vanished with a promise of help.
